Matthew Modine’s very short film with a VERY POWERFUL MESSAGE.
This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done. The best way to create hope is to create opportunity.

It’s easy to bemoan our political leaders and we no doubt expect way too much from them. They are, after all, no more than elected public officials. We vote them into office to represent us. When they fail to represent the will of the people and the nation, we need to replace them and find those that will. This democratic process is but one of the goals of the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement. OWS can now be found in 951 cities in 83 countries including Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Africa. OWS is a people-powered movement that began in the financial district of New York City and has grown into a global occupation. It’s people from all over the world asking for better management. People asking this from their leaders and nations. People recognizing that governments commitment to the future is short-sighted. People exercising their right to demonstrate — which is the most basic emblem of democracy. Everybody is each of us. If you think you’re too small to make an impact, remember how annoying it is to try and sleep with a mosquito in your bedroom. I made this film to demonstrate.

I watched the premiere of Newsroom.  And, I loved it.  It is beyond me, why the premiere of NEWSROOM opened to scathing reviews by some members of the mainstream media. Watch the entire episode here.

Romney Trails in His Home State – No Matter Which One He Chooses

Mitt Romney was born and raised in Michigan, which technically makes it his “home state”. He was Governor of Massachusetts and he and his wife still maintain a condo there. The Romneys also have a “compound” in New Hampshire, and a beach house in California.

It would be reasonable to think that at least one of the four states he has a connection to would be behind him as a candidate – think again.

Currently, President Obama is ahead of Romney in the polls in all four states where the Romneys have ties. According to Real Clear Politics

   Obama’s leads are:

  •   Michigan: +8.5
  •   Massachusetts: +21
  •   California: +23.5
  •   New Hampshire: +6.4

Trailing in Michigan is understandable, after all Romney has bungled and re-bungled the issue of the bailout for the major automakers – they should go bankrupt, the bailout was my idea, etc., etc. Then there was the idiot move where, as the New York Times reported,  he told several thousand Wisconsin voters:

“…one of the most humorous” connections he had to the state came when his father, George Romney, closed an auto plant in Michigan and moved it to Wisconsin. When the elder Mr. Romney later ran for governor of Michigan, the son recalled, the plant closure became a rather sensitive subject, especially when a school band played   the Wisconsin fight song at a parade…”

Hardly an amusing anecdote.

2008 oppo-research is a window into the mind of Romney.  There is little doubt that updating is in order, but it is still an interesting read nonetheless.

McCain’s 2008 opposition dossier on Romney: He’s weak and a flip-flopper

Talk about awkward.

John McCain’s entire 2008 opposition-research dossier on then-foe Mitt Romney has reportedly been found and posted online, thanks to BuzzFeed.

The two politicians were bitter opponents for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008. McCain won, of course, and Romney backed the Arizona senator after conceding. (entire story here).  via ALIYAH SHAHID at Daily News.

House Conservatives want to cut Child and Elderly Programs Instead of Nuclear Stockpiles

(Via Center for American Progress)

House Republicans are asking low- and middle-income families to sacrifice health care and basic services to preserve redundant defense systems:

  • They are prepared to slash funding for child and elder abuse prevention, Meals on Wheels, and foster care to keep a helicopter that costs five times as much as similar models yet is not much more effective.
  • They are willing to raise taxes on the families of 5.5 million low-income children to purchase two submarines that are unnecessary to maintain our naval superiority.
  • They are ready to force hundreds of thousands of working families to forgo health coverage in order to block any cuts to a nuclear stockpile whose size is largely a relic of the Cold War.

Here’s the background: The House Republican budget instructs the Ways and Means Committee to find $53 billion in savings in order to “protect national security from deep and indiscriminate cuts” that would otherwise take place in January 2013 due to the debt deal agreed to last summer. On April 17 the committee set forth their package, which exceeded the target. It proposes $68 billion in cuts and tax increases for low- and middle-income Americans.

The chart below gives a side-by-side comparison of the cuts to low- and middle-income families that House conservatives are proposing in order to shield wasteful military spending from automatic cuts in the debt deal.

Limbaugh’s recent tirade caused not only a massive loss of  sponsors , it also created a deep matrimonial divide.    And, in what some are calling a “stunt’ to save his crumbling marriage: LIMBAUGH HAS CUT ALL TIES WITH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

Yes, it’s true. The Conservative SHOCK JOCK, in what some political pundits are calling the worst act of partisan terrorism that the United States has ever seen, has joined the Democratic Party.

The redemptive move has created a marriage of sorts with the think tanks at MSNBC,  who, only moments ago, announced that Limbaugh would be the new co-anchor of the Rachel Maddow Show.  The new format, debuting later this month,  will feature Limbaugh’s LIVE baptism performed by the host of Politics Nation,  Reverend Al Sharpton.

MSNBC execs are troubled by the reactions of the stars of some of their most popular shows:

Chris Matthews’ the host of HARDBALL, tweeted this morning that “ I don’t care if  he is baptized by the POPE; I am LEAVING the moment Limbaugh sets foot in the building.

Lawrence O’Donnell could not be reached for comment, but a press release issued earlier this morning stated that O’Donnell was rushed to a local hospital after staffers reportedly discovered him in a hypnotic state repeating the words, “Hydrocodone and arsenic”.

Ed Schultz, for the first time in his career was rendered speechless with the exception of murmuring something about “backwoods justice.”

Despite the harsh reactions of some, network execs insist that “Maddow is excited about the new format.”  However, sources closest to Maddow say that she will issue a formal statement as soon as they can talk her down from the ledge of her condo.

The Gaffe Heard ‘Round the World…(The REAL Story)-

President Obama was overheard telling Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev that he would have more flexibility in arms-control negotiations after the U.S. presidential election in November.  His statement, taken out-of-context was fodder for the Faux ‘News’ squad.

Mitt Romney was asked to comment.  Romney said to CNN’s Blitzer: Russia is “without question our No. 1 geopolitical foe” because it “fights every cause for the world’s worst actors.”

Shortly after Romney choked down this plateful of filet-o-sole, the Romneybot sprang into action:

On Tuesday morning, Mitt Romney’s foreign policy team sent an open letter to President Barack Obama—via the National Review Online—that excoriated Obama for his inadvertently recorded comment to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in South Korea. Prior to a press conference, Obama had leaned toward Medvedev and said, “On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this can be solved, but it’s important for him [Prime Minister Vladimir Putin] to give me space.” He added, “This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.” Not shockingly, Romney’s brain trust pounced on the remarks, claiming that the statements “raise questions about whether a new period of even greater weakness and inconstancy would lie ahead if you are reelected. (Mother Jones)

It didn’t take long for Russia to weigh in on Romney’s comment.  The Moscow Times quickly moved on the story:

Officials close to the Kremlin were careful to portray the remark as a fringe position cooked up by Romney’s “neoconservative advisers” during an election campaign and not official U.S. policy.

Another Kremlin-leaning official riffed on Medvedev’s analogy by comparing Romney to the cowboy mascot for Marlboro cigarettes.

“Republicans have decided to play the Marlboro man in how they position themselves on the international stage,” said Alexander Sokolov, head of the Public Chamber’s international affairs working group, RIA-Novosti reported.

Fyodor Lukyanov, editor of Russia in Global Affairs, said Russia’s leadership should be flattered that Romney takes them so seriously.

“The United States’ main foe is its failure to understand what’s going on,” he said. “The political and economic rise of Asia, namely China, is far more important than Russia.”

You’ve got to hand it  to the Russians, they see Mitt Romney for what he is; which is more than I can say for some of his far right supporters.
