GET OFF THE RAGG: Open Letter

Dear Radical Right Republicans, Tea Partiers, Birthers, Posers, and Hypocrites:

Have you no shame.  We have endless for-profit wars over oil, special interests ruling our Nation, and American’s struggling to live, but all you want to talk about is Religion, Abortion, Guns, and Gays.

Allow me to address your issues on a personal level:

I consider myself a Progressive.   Being a Progressive does not make me a ‘baby-killer’, a GUN BANNING fanatic, or a radical enemy combatant.

Now to address the CORNERSTONE issues of the Radical RIGHT:

(1) RELIGION

I tolerate all religions (and there are MANY) that celebrate the Golden Rule.   I am an Atheist.  I am not a god hater.  You cannot hate what you do not believe in.

(2) ABORTION

What a woman chooses to do with her body, is a decision for her to make, after seeking the advise of her physician.  I am PRO-CHOICE/PRO –LIFE.   That does not mean that I advocate FOR or AGAINST ABORTION.  I simply think that a woman should have the choice.

(3) GUNS

Guns (alone) don’t kill people. Guns in the wrong PEOPLE’S hands kill people (with some exceptions).  We simply need to keep the guns out of the hands of the bad guys and leave the good guys with guns alone.

(4) GAYS

You don’t become gay-you are born that way.  It’s not a disease.  You either are, or you aren’t.  It’s the way you’re made.  Marriage is between two people who love each other, period (not genitalia requisite).

I am not alone in my beliefs.  There are millions more like me.   So, Dear Radical Right Republicans, Tea Partiers, Birthers, and Haters, please keep this in mind when you spread your messages of hate.  The TRUTH may eventually set YOU free.

GET OFF THE R.A.G.G. -Humanity is calling.

Love and Peace.

Occupy Demands Answers. Do you?

And, on the eighth day the Earth shook, the heavens parted, and mankind was split into two warring political factions:  Us…and, them (the 99% vs. the 1%).

Humanity is under attack.  The enemy is misinformation.  The attack is brief, but consistent. The preferred method of delivery is through intermittent blasts of twisted propaganda; the battleground is the human psyche; the weapon of choice, the media.  A movement so profound cannot (and should not) be reduced to thirty second intervals.  This sound bite mentality does not inspire thought; it only serves to polarize and excite. The collateral damage of these unfettered attacks is chipping away at the ideas, debate, and discussion borne of the Occupy movement.

Occupy is what happens when people decide enough is enough. It is an act of extremism born of frustration.  Extremism is not a foreign concept.  As a matter of fact, America has made going to extremes its national identity.  It could easily be stated that our founding fathers were extremists- liberty seeking extremists who turned the simple question: “What if?” into a national motto.  Yet, the Occupy movement takes the ‘what if’ question a step further, asking ‘why’… and demands an answer.

The Occupy movement is the catalyst for discourse underscoring the egregious disparities between the laboring 99% and the ruling 1%.   Productive discourse, tempered with reason, gives birth to ideas; ideas give birth to dreams; and dreams that come to fruition through determination and perseverance, challenge and inspire others.

The proliferation of merit less ideas or arguments for the sake of personal gain, ratings, and/or profit pollutes the Occupy message. The conversation began with the Occupy movement.  The American Dream is under attack. But, if the proverbial American Dream is to be realized by 100% of the people, credence must be given to the concerned voices of the 99%.  Don’t let the dream die…Occupy EVERYWHERE.

Cemeteries are Peaceful…

Hugo Chavez may not be the perfect president, but anyone who can tip their hat to the IMF with a thanks, but no thanks attitude, deserves a bit of respect. And, while I may not embrace all of Hugo’s politics, I am quite fond of him.

In September, President Hugo Chávez’s statement was delivered by Venezuela’s foreign minister, Nicolas Maduro at the 66th UN General Assembly .    I printed the entire speech from the website listed below.   I began reading…and, I couldn’t stop.  Soon, the symbolic, powerful words penetrated my thoughts, plunging down into the black , depths of my intellect.  The simple (and painful) truth of Hugo Chávez‘ s statement cannot be denied. Truth be told, with respect to America, I couldn’t have said it better myself.

“Peace, peace, peace… We do not look for the peace of the cemetery, as said Kant ironically, but a peace based on the most zealous respect for international law. Unfortunately, the UN, through all its history, instead of adding and multiplying efforts in favor of peace among nations, ends up supporting, sometimes through its actions and other times by omission, the most ruthless injustices.”

Why does the UN do nothing to stop Washington? Because, Hugo, if we give them enough rope they will hang themselves….The imperialists have a people’s revolt on their hands. Yet, I do not hope for the peace of the cemetery. If we’re in the cemetery, we didn’t work hard enough for PEACE. The occupation continues.
The statement continues: ” I want to call on the governments of the world to reflect: since September 11th, 2001, a new and unprecedented imperialist war began, a permanent war, in perpetuity.”

It’s true, Hugo, the U.S. war-profiteers continue to feed their blood thirsty appetite, manufacturing fear in the hearts of the castle dwellers. The imperialists bankroll the propaganda peddlers, and there is no end in site. The war on terror is a front created to justify perpetual war.

It should always be remembered that “saving future generations from the scourge of war” is mentioned in the Preamble of the Charter of the United Nations – it’s just a dead letter. From 1945 on, wars have done nothing but inexorably increase and multiply themselves. We see, once again, Libya destroyed and bloodstained by the will of the powerful. We have to look directly at the terrifying reality of the world we live in. It is necessary to ask a series of questions on the basis of the risks and threats we face: Why is the United States the only country that scatters the planet with military bases? What is it afraid of to allocate such a staggering budget for increasing its military power? Why has it unleashed so many wars, violating the sovereignty of other nations which have the same rights on their own fates? How can international law be enforced against its insensible aspiration to militarily hegemonizing the world in order to ensure energy sources to sustain their predatory and consumer model? Why does the UN do nothing to stop Washington? If we answer these questions sincerely we would understand that the empire has awarded itself the role of judge of the world, without being granted this responsibility by anyone, and, therefore, imperialist war threatens us all.

Washington knows that a multi-polar world is already an irreversible reality. Its strategy consists of stopping, at any price, the sustained rise of a group of emerging countries, by negotiating great interests with its partners and followers in order to guide multipolarity along the path the empire wants. What is more, the goal is to reconfigure the world so it is based on Yankee military hegemony. Mankind is facing the very real threat of a permanent war. The empire is ready to create the political conditions for triggering a war anywhere, and the case of Libya proves it. Within the imperial view of the world, the well-known Clausewitz’s axiom is being reversed: politics is the continuation of war by other means.

What is behind this new Armageddon?: the absolute power of the military-financial leadership which is destroying the world in order to accumulate ever more profits; the military-financial leadership which is subordinated, de facto, to an increasingly larger group of States. Keep in mind that war is capital’s modus operandi: the war that ruins the majority and makes richer, up to the unthinkable, a few people...

Humanity is on the brink of an unimaginable catastrophe: the world is marching inexorably toward the most devastating ecocide; global warming and its frightening consequences are announcing it, but their perspective on the ecosystem, which resembles the ideology of the conquistadors Cortés and Pizarro, as the influential French thinker Edgar Morin rightly pointed out, pushes them to continue degrading and destroying. The energy and food crises are sharpening, but capitalism continues to trespass all the limits with impunity.

Given such a meager outlook, the great U.S. scientist Linus Pauling, awarded the Nobel Prize on two occasions, continues enlightening our path: “I believe that there is a greater power in the world than the evil power of military force, of nuclear bombs — there is the power of good, of morality, of humanitarianism. I believe in the power of the human spirit”. Let us mobilize all the power of the human spirit: it is time now. It is imperative that we unleash a great political counter-offensive in order to prevent the powers of darkness from finding justifications for going to war, from unleashing a widespread global war through which they attempt to save the western capital….

I want to conclude by remembering the great Venezuelan singer, Alí Primera. In one of his songs he asks us: “What is man’s struggle to achieve peace? And what peace, if they want to leave the world just as it is?” Today more than ever before, the worst crime against peace is to leave the world as it is: if we leave the world as it is, the present and future will be determined by perpetual war. On the contrary, to quote Alí Primera, achieving peace involves radically reversing all that impedes humanity from being humane.

Rise Up Against The Machine

The Occupy Wall Street demonstrations, now spreading like wildfire across the nation, are the culmination of deep rooted pain & suffering of an oppressed sector of society. And, if current political trajectory continues undisturbed, this oppressed society will soon become extinct; crushed beneath the weight of political favors.
Historically, the campaign trails are littered with come-ons and one-liners designed to coddle and woo the 99%. But, soon after the ballots are counted, the romance quickly fades. And, like a cheap one-night stand, our self-serving leaders, resume their tawdry affairs with the elite 1%, while quietly and discreetly leaving the interests of the 99% on the nightstand as they disappear into the shadows.
“He chose poorly” said the Grail Knight of the scavenger… Leaders who choose profit over people-can expect a similar fate. The political scavengers who prostitute themselves for the sake of bankrolling ambition must be held accountable.
99% of the population holds 99% of the VOTE. Remember that. But, it doesn’t stop at the ballot box. Hopefully, this movement will inspire a new generation of social activists, to sort through the quagmire of special interest and reveal the true agenda of their chosen representatives. And, then (hopefully) they will take the appropriate actions to eradicate the source (vote them out of office).
Fellow 99’ers, never give up and never give in, even when the odds are stacked against you. The fight must continue: “Everything we do & everything we are is in jeopardy, and because the peril is immediate & unremitting, every person is the right person to act and every moment is the right moment to begin, starting with the present moment. For nothing underscores our common humanity as strongly as the peril of extinction does; In fact, on a practical and political plane it establishes that common humanity. The purpose of action is not to replace life with politics. The point is not to turn life into a scene of protest; life is the point.” (Jonathan Schell).
We must fight for a better tomorrow.

Compassion Renaissance: Start a Revolution.

My incontrovertible sense of humor can’t help me laugh this one away.  I simply cannot laugh away the pain.  Pain caused by the realization that our nation is plagued by hate, fear, and indifference.  What happened to humanity?  Have we lost our ability to love each other?  When did humanity become so disconnected that it’s common place to walk past our wounded brothers or sisters without so much as acknowledging their pain?  I really need to know.  The idealist in me doesn’t want to become like the machine.    Spend a minute tonight thinking about this.  To
those who can hear me, speak out!   We are humanity… “If you prick us, do we not bleed?  If you tickle us, do we not laugh?  If you poison us, do we not die? And, if you wrong us…[does anyone really care]?  (Some of us do); It’s time for a compassion renaissance.  Will you start the revolution?

WAR IS BUSINESS…

US War Profiteering: Coup de grâce to the sanctimonious ‘American Dream’ hyperbole.

Nothing captures the essence of ‘war as business’ better than the satirical brilliance of War Inc. (2008). Corporate sponsorship of war (depicted in the film) may seem far-fetched, but the industrial military complex of our current reality is proof that this far fetched notion is disturbingly accurate. Perhaps, serving up the truth with a side order of satire helps to make the unspeakable reality of wars for profit (in spite of human devastation) easier to stomach. But, off screen, the harsh reality doesn’t end when the credits roll.

Funding contrived, perpetual wars in the name of greed… is the new American way. Our leaders (past and present) sell the notion of war by exploiting the villain, victim, hero frames deeply embedded in the psyche. The ever looming threat of terrorism (fueled by metaphors of fear) provide the necessary level of political brainwashing to gain supporters. Soon, the war mongering puppet masters execute murder-for-profit contracts, written in blood.

Support war or suffer the consequences-opposition will be labeled treasonous, unpatriotic, or un-American. But, anti-war activists are immune the tactical framing and political brainwashing of the war mongers.

They see contrived war for the scam it really is…war profiteering fraught with waste, fraud, and abuse.

Governments offer up the human sacrifices to fuel the war profiteering machine. Stop the machine. Know the truth.

“There is no flag large enough to cover the shame of killing innocent people.” — Howard Zinn

Poll Tax, Revisited

The radical right extremists and the tea party redneck brigade boldly claim to be defenders & protectors of the Constitution. Perhaps, these self proclaimed patriots should read it.

“Imagine that you are finally old enough to vote in your first election. But, do you have enough money to vote? What if you had to pay to vote? Not too many years ago, citizens in some states had to pay a fee to vote in a national election. This fee was called a poll tax. On January 23, 1964, the United States ratified the 24th Amendment to the Constitution, prohibiting any poll tax in elections for federal officials.”

When Texas voters are asked to show a photo ID at the polls in January, they will join voters in 29 other states that have adopted voter identification requirements — but only six of which require photo identification. The new requirement reeks of Voter Suppression. Texas Democrats have expressed concern with the new requirement” You can too.

Studies have shown that 11 percent of eligible voters, more than 20 million Americans, do not have a government-issued ID. This percentage is even higher for seniors, racial minorities, low-income voters and students. The record is clear that restrictive photo identification laws, such as the one just passed in Texas, serve no legitimate purpose. While proponents cite the need to guard against voter fraud, numerous recent investigations and studies have found zero evidence of substantial voter fraud of the kind voter ID laws would protect against — voter impersonation.

The procedure to obtain a Texas ID or Driver’s License requires you to show “Lawful Presence” by producing one of the following:

  1. Certificate of Birth issued by appropriate U.S. State, Territory, or District of Columbia;
  2. Department of State Certification of birth issued to U.S. Citizens born abroad
  3. Certificate of U.S. Citizenship
  4. U.S. Dept. of Justice – INS U.S. Citizenship Identification Card
  5. U.S. Dept. of Justice – INS Identification Card for Resident Citizen of the U.S.
  6. U.S. Passport
  7. Valid Permanent Resident Card
  8. Passport or I-94 stamped “Approved I-551”;
  9. Passport or I-94 stamped “Processed for I-551” or
  10. Permit to Re-enter (Form I-327).

Most, if not all, require a certified copy of your birth certificate to obtain.

A Texas ID costs about $ 25.

And, to obtain a copy of your birth certificate (in Texas) you must provide:

  1. State-issued driver’s license
  2. State/city/county ID card
  3. Student ID
  4. Government employment badge or card
  5. Prison ID
  6. Military ID.

Certified copy of birth certificate costs about $22.

Combined cost (birth certificate/license): $47

Disturbing Fact: let’s say you make minimum wage (which makes up the majority of the so called jobs that Perry is claiming to have created), $7.25 an hour. You would need to work 6.48 hours in order to make enough money to pay your Poll Tax.

AMERICA-DOOMED!?.. Downgrades, REBEL FLAGS in TEXAS, Hot Dogs, Tea Party POOPERS, and the EXPLODING SUN…

AMERICA IS DOOMED? AAA Credit Downgrade, political pandering disguised as “prayer rallies”, prayer & fasting succumbs to the temptation of HOT DOG vendors, and more Tea Party obstructionism.

Perry wants to put the racist rebel flag on Texas License Plates, Capitalism has no place in Health Care, and,  not only does it feel like we’re living in Hades due to the political discontent, we now have proof- the SUN is EXPLODING

Wow, and I thought my bad mood due to inadequate caffeine levels.

TOP 10 REASONS NOT TO VOTE FOR PERRY

WHY TRICKY RICK PERRY IS BAD FOR TEXAS AND EVEN WORSE FOR AMERICA

Here’s what the Republican Party

is NOT TELLING YOU ABOUT TRICKY RICK:

1) Tricky Rick’s all about “big government” –a career politician.

2) Total Government spending in Texas has doubled since TRICKY RICK took office in 2000.

2) TEXAS DEBT IS OUT-OF-CONTROL! http://www.usdebtclock.org/state-debt-clocks/state-of-texas-debt-clock.html

3) TRICKY RICK wanted to lease Texas roadways (that were already free to drive on) and turn them into toll roads by developing the Trans-Texas Corridor (part of the planned NAFTA superhighway system).

4) TRICKY RICK HAS REPEATEDLY RAISED TAXES AS GOVERNOR!

5) TEXAS UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IS CURRENTLY 8%-THAT’S 23RD IN THE NATION. http://www.bls.gov/lau/

6) TRICKY RICK KEEPS TEXAS WAGES LOW! Between December 2007 and April 2011, weekly wages in the U.S. increased by about 5 percent. In the state of Texas they increased by just 0.6% .

7) TRICKY RICK HAS DEMOLISHED OUR public education system:

36th in the nation in high school graduation rates;

An estimated 3.8 million Texans do not have a high school diploma;

49th in verbal SAT scores,

47th in literacy;

46th in average math SAT scores; and

33rd in the nation on teacher salaries.

8.   Texas has the highest percentage of workers making minimum wage out of all 50 states.

In 2007, 221,000 residents of Texas were making minimum wage or less. By 2010, that number had risen to 550,000.

9) TRICKY RICK PRAISES HIS efforts to fight ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION WITHOUT THE HELP OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT… BUT TAKES 125 MILLION ANNUALLY IN FEDERAL (DHS) FUNDS to “help out.”

10) TRICKY RICK SIGNED EXECUTIVE ORDER (2007) TO FORCE EVERY SINGLE GIRL IN TEXAS TO TAKE THE GARDASIL VACCINE BEFORE THE 6TH GRADE. Since then, very serious safety issues regarding this vaccine have come to light. THANKFULLY, lawmakers in Texas blocked TRICKY RICK. Sources cite issues with “apparent financial connections between Merck and Perry to news outlets, such as a $ 6,000 campaign contribution and Merck’s hiring of former Perry Chief of Staff Mike Toomey to handle its Texas lobbying work.”
